Roberts' Reference List, for
Roberts' Polio Article, in The Ecologist, May 2004
Review by Jim West ( DRAFT )
Janine Robert's reference list was published on The Ecologist's ("TE") website May, 2004, with the related article, and then removed about six months later. This reference list did remain on Robert's website for years, though now (10/1/2010) it is removed. Below is a screen print of the references from TE's website, before removal. Roberts' polio article (two sections as PDFs) lists a few "resources" (not references) and can be downloaded from Roberts' site. In that article, references to "Jim West" are missing, fictional, and misleading.
Roberts' polio article, section one, is mainly built from Jim West's polio research. See reference analysis table below where oddities are revealed. It appears Roberts generally supplies page numbers or article titles when copying references from articles of West's discovered arcana, giving the appearance of Roberts' found documents. Otherwise, Roberts appears to fake references possibly from memory as there is no title, author, page number, or publication date. Roberts references sometimes do not relate to the subject material. If Roberts is merely in error, not stealing or slopping to facilitate the production of a profitable article, then Roberts still has a major problem due to the appearance of gross plagiarism. Additionally, how can Roberts' grossly inaccurate claims be confirmed without reliable references?
In Roberts' reference list, 28 of 51 references (#38 is a ref of a ref of a ref) in the first section, are largely taken from West's articles and his analyses and renderings of arcana, while omitting West and the arcane authors he found, rendered and analyzed. Roberts copied many of West's webpages, scrubbed out any sign of West, and copied his work to Roberts' "Polio Library". Several of those have been removed hence. The motivation and capabilities of the editors at The Ecologist are questionable, as they selected, cooperated, and paid Roberts for this lengthy article.

Reference item (Roberts) | Actual source | Comments |
First Section of Robert's Article. The topic is polio and chemical causation. |
Refers largely to the topic originally researched by Jim West, i.e., Pesticides and Polio.

2 Cooke, John: Treatise of Nervous Diseases, 1824 | JR copied Scobey's footnote 4 from West's rendition and analysis at scobpois.htm
3 CK Mills; [Boston M & S J]; 108: 248-250; 15 March 1883 | JR copied Scobey's footnote 8 from West's rendition and analysis at scobpois.htm | Continuing forward from this reference, Roberts is one reference number out of sequence, in relation to Roberts' article. |
4 Vulpian, A.: Quoted by R. W. Lovett, Ref. 5 below. | JR copied Scobey's footnote 6 from West's rendition and analysis at scobpois.htm | Roberts copied Scobey's footnote from West's analysis of Scobey, then changed Scobey's "Lovett, Ref 24 below" to "Lovett, Ref 5 below", apparently to throw off the reader. |
5 CK Mills; [Boston M & S J]; 108: 248-250; 15 March 1883 | JR copied Scobey's footnote 8 from West's rendition and analysis at scobpois.htm | There is no "Lovett" in Roberts' Ref 5, which is Roberts' malformed copy of Scobey's Ref 8. Scobey's Ref 8 reads, "Popow: Quoted by C. K. Mills, Boston M. & S. J., 108: 248-250. March 15, 1883". Roberts is involved in a 5-layer deep plagiarism, revealing an apparent plagiaristic routine, i.e., paraphrasing an author and footnoting the references of his references. |

Also Dr Ralph R. Scobey The Poison Cause of Poliomyelitis Archives of Pediatrics, vol. 69, p172 (April 1952). Also Emerson’s report on the 1908 epidemic in Massachusetts. | From, West's website, several references already given above, plus a reference to Emerson's 1908 study, from an analysis by Jim West. | The Emerson report of 1908 is
actually West's rendering and analysis of Emerson's article (temporarily
removed from West's site). Roberts copied, scrubbed out West, and
placed the resulting document in Roberts' website, "Polio Library".
Roberts then added factually false commentary, giving the impression of original
research.
Roberts gives no publisher, journal, date or title for this document by Emerson, and gives no reference to West's rendering and analysis. |

"Burnet". This reference regards a significant quotation on poliovirology, selected by West. |
40 Public Law 518; Federal Statutes; 1954 | From, West's references, his main article, "Overview". | This reference is meaningful
to Jim West. West Placed this reference as plagiarism detector ("a
false island in a map"). Roberts apparently copied this reference, while copying the other references. |

49 WJ Rea et al; ‘The environmental aspects of the post-polio syndrome’; [www.aehf.com/A56.htm] | Apparently, RJ copied this from West's
page, http://harpub.tk/envpolio.htm |
First findings of this article were unclear, so West asked Rea's office for a clear copy and permission. He was given a clear copy and permission. West re-formatted the document extensively for web presentation. |
Second Section of Robert's Article. The topic is poisonous vaccines and SV40 |
This section of Robert's article, refers to the topic SV40. Material is not related to Jim West, but related to Roberts' earlier work.

16 A December 1996 paper in Oncogene by a German team headed by Roberta Santarelli, reporting research partly carried out by them at the US National Institutes of Health, stated that “SV40 T-antigen induces breast cancer formation with a high efficiency” in 100% of lactating and 70% of virgin animals. They further noted that it was indicated that “immortalisation of mammary cells by SV40 T-antigen is a hit and run mechanism” in that not all the cells affected by SV40 remain SV40 positive. |
Other Examples
Roberts is extremely sloppy and fabricative, thus not much can be trusted without verification, as demonstrated also, for example, in the detailed review of Roberts' The Letter. Also see a review of Roberts' "The Hidden Epidemic", another fabricative section in Roberts' polio article. Other reviews are at the Roberts' Index.
