OCT1999 Infectious Disease News: "NEW YORK CITY - Fifty specimens from residents here have now been classified as laboratory-positive cases of a West Nile-like virus. As of Oct. 5, five patients have died... Twenty-six of the West Nile-like virus cases are from Queens, nine are from the Bronx, two from Manhattan and one from Brooklyn. Twelve cases were also reported from Westchester and Nassau Counties, however, all deaths have occurred in Queens residents...."
